When One thinks of Ford Motor Company, they think of vehicles they see everyday on the road. I am writing this blog because I have chose to highlight what Ford Motor Company has next coming in terms of mass-transportation that is affordable for consumers.
Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford in 1903 in Dearborn, Michigan and according to their official site it states, “With 12 investors and 1,000 shares, the company had spent almost all of its $28,000 cash investment by the time it sold the first Ford Model A on July 23, 1903. But by October 1, 1903 Ford Motor Company had turned a profit of $37,000” (Ford, n.d.). Ford would go on to create affordable transportation when cars where a new item with the Model T and an example of how this occurred states, “Ford’s innovation eventually reduced the Model Ts chassis assembly line from 12.5 to 1.5 hours, doing so precipitated a revolution in manufacturing. The acceleration speed with which Ford could produce cars helped him continue to lower the price of the Model T” (Ford, n.d.). Ford would also go on to create iconic vehicles such as the Mustang, the popular F-150 pickup truck line and also SUVs such as the Ford Explorer, so customers expect a vehicle to fit their needs at an affordable price, which would not have happened if Henry Ford did not innovate on how cars were built. Cars, though as of 2026 have been increasing in price, which has pushed some consumers out of the market, so a need for affordable transportation, in which most can afford is missing.
What Ford Motor company intends to with this problem is to introduce more options to its vehicles that are better for the environment, which in recent years has caused people to shift away from electric vehicles due to their high buy-in price. The way that Ford intends to combat this is by expanding into hybrid technology and also new electric vehicle platforms that can span more vehicle applications and be more energy efficient. An example from Ford’s website states, “By 2030, Ford expects approximately 50% of its global volume will be hybrids, extended- range EVs and fully electric vehicles, up from 17% in 2025” (Ford, n.d.). With this plan, more people that want to buy a Ford that is still with in budget, but eco-friendly, will have more options then a costly electric vehicle. Another example of this plan states, “Ford plans to expand hybrids with a range of executions based on customer needs and duty cycle–economical, performance hybrids and hybrids with exportable power. Ford is enhancing its strategy for larger trucks and SUVs to better align with customer demand for capability, towing and range, which includes adding extended-range electric options to its lineup” (Ford, n.d.). With these options, Ford is making sure to meet every consumer where they are in terms of price and also what type of vehicle fits their needs.
What I am aiming to learn about Ford Motor Company’s target audience is why their customers choose them time and time again for purchasing a vehicle versus the competition. I am also wanting to learn about these consumers is, why would they choose this type of vehicle, e.g., a hybrid and extended-range electric vehicles versus just pure electric vehicles that the competition has to offer, like the Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup versus the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck.
What I am wanting to know about Ford’s electric truck competition, the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup is what makes it better than Ford’s electric pickup that someone might buy it instead of the Ford EV pickup truck? I also want to see what superior options the Silverado EV has. According to Motor Trend, which reviews and tests vehicles for consumers to make their buying decision easier and example states, “Range and Efficiency, The EPA rates the F-150 Lighting Platinum at 73/60/66 mpg-e with its 131 kWh battery providing a range of 300 miles. Sporting a 205-kWh battery, The Silverado EV achieves a 440-mile range, which works out to 72 mpg-e combined” (Markus, 2024). This is why I feel that it is a wise decision for Ford to extend multiple drive-train options to meet customers where they are because according to Motor Trend the prices are, “Value for Money, These range toppers are pricey: $90,440 for the Ford and $96,495 for the Chevy” (Markus, 2024). I feel that Ford exploring these new option, then it will lead sales figures and also meet every customer where they are currently. With the current Presidential Administration reducing and relaxing the current state of electric vehicle adoption with cutting the federal tax credit that was their to help people, then it is wise for Ford to move in the direction of offering more options for every customer.
